They Speak of Hope: The Church in El Salvador is a 1986 documentary that examines the role of the Catholic Church during the Salvadoran Civil War. The film focuses on the efforts of religious figures and communities in El Salvador as they navigate the extreme violence and political instability of the era. It emphasizes the concept of "liberation theology," highlighting how the Church became a central force in advocating for human rights, providing sanctuary for the oppressed, and offering a voice for those caught in the middle of the conflict.
