Overview

Produced by Japan’s public broadcaster NHK alongside *Godzilla: Final Wars*, this feature-length 2004 documentary commemorates Godzilla’s 50th anniversary by tracing the King of the Monsters’ evolving relationship with Japanese society and culture while also following the production of what was then intended to be the franchise’s final film. After its original 2004 broadcast and a second airing in 2005, the documentary fell out of circulation and became sought-after lost media among Godzilla fans. More than two decades later, a surviving off-air VHS recording was rediscovered, digitised and given its first English fan subtitles by KaikiSubs in 2026.
