Born Behind Bars is a documentary about detention within the female section of Johannesburg Correctional Centre. It looks behind the high walls and iron doors to tell the story of Morwesi Theledi, who was awaiting trial during the second trimester of her pregnancy after her arrest. She is sentenced to ten years behind bars and during this time she gives birth to a baby boy under inhumane conditions. However, her days with her bundle of joy are cut short after two inseparable years. Her little boy is taken away from her to live with her family in Soweto. And this is where a surprising new chapter begins for Morwesi.
