Inspired by a quote from W.J.T. Mitchell’s book “What Do Pictures Want”, Robby Reis embarks on a unique experiment to either debunk or validate Mitchell’s assertion that “Everyone knows that a photograph of their mother is not alive, but they will still be reluctant to deface or destroy it.” Selecting portraits of his parents, Reis prints and scratches into 24 copies of each image.
