Overview
Bereket, a mechanic living in Addis Ababa but originally from Asmara, has been suspected for some time of betraying his country, perhaps because of his Eritrean identity, or perhaps because of his intimidating physical stature. As a result, he can relate to Baalu Girma, also persecuted by a corrupt authority. I staged him in scenes from the novel and interviewed him both in and out of character. This two-channel video blends fiction and biography, past and present, film and literature, and political dissent and art.
