Overview

Norman Granz is one of the most important non-musicians in the history of Jazz and no one has made a greater contribution to the staging, recording, and filming of Jazz concerts. This series of Performance from the Prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival now makes a part of this legacy available on DVD for the first time. Dizzy Gillespie was one of the greatest Jazz trumpet players of all time. Always pushing the limits, he was largely responsible, along with Charlie Parker, for the emergence of Be Bop in the late forties. Captured here in 1977, he is in fine form leading a small band that includes Jon Faddis, Reay Brown and Milt Jackson, through tracks such as "Girl Of My Dreams," "Once In A While" and "Here 'Tis."
