Overview

When Jacinto falls ill, his relatives call on a local healer to cure him. This intimate look at traditional Mayan healing practices reveals indigenous values for addressing the physical, spiritual, and psychological aspects of illness and healing, often in stark contrast to Western medical techniques. El Curandero is the first drama-fiction produced by the indigenous communities of Chiapas. The actors are from Magdalena, a small mountain community.
