The Paris Opera is one of the world's most prestigious opera houses. Guillaume Diop was appointed principal dancer there in 2023—the first person of color in the opera's history. In the orchestra pit, Sulivan Loiseau plays The Nutcracker on the double bass. She is the first Black musician in the Paris Opera Orchestra. It's not just Diop and Loiseau's exceptional talent that continues to attract attention, but also their skin color. Some consider them role models. Others believe the opera is using them to fulfill its diversity quota.
