Since the industrial revolution, the use of fossil fuels has released enormous amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. This gas reduces the Earth's heat radiation, thus leading to rising temperatures on our planet. Every year, several billion tons of carbon dioxide are added, which we now know will remain in the Earth's atmosphere for several centuries. The pace of global warming was long underestimated. Its consequences are dramatic: melting ice, rising sea levels, devastating fires, and increasingly severe droughts. Scientists are clear that climate change requires global strategies and countermeasures.
