Overview

This is an audiovisual documentation of the history, architecture, galleries, events, and vibe of the oldest and the largest museum in India as well as in the Asia-Pacific region of the world. This museum was known as the Society Museum in the beginning and was situated at the premises of the Asiatic Society of Bengal. Later it was shifted to an independent building known as the Imperial Museum, which was renamed the Indian Museum in the course of time. The present building of the Indian Museum was surrounded by hotspots like Eden Gardens, Monument, Birla Planetarium, Government Art College, Park Street and Esplanade. The architect of the grand white Neoclassical-style building was Walter Long Bozzi Granville (1819-74), and the founder was Sir William Jones. Presently the building was under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
