Eight-year-old Imani is a spirited girl living with her grandmother in the village of Alkeboulane. Her greatest dream? To play the djembe, just like her late father— and her brother, who carries on his legacy. But in Alkeboulane, women are forbidden to touch the instrument— doing so would risk invoking a powerful curse.
