Overview
For 33 years, Berfo Kirbayir fought relentlessly to find her son, Cemil, who disappeared in custody during the 1980 military coup. A stalwart member of the Saturday Mothers movement, she demanded justice until her death at age 105. Though her last wish--not to be buried until Cemil was found--could not be fulfilled, her grave is accompanied by an empty grave, a final, during vigil for her lost son.
