Who’s The We? follows Doug Pagitt, a Minneapolis-based pastor and activist, as he leads a small group of riders on a 66-day bicycle journey across the entire United States, tracing the length of the U.S.–Mexico border before continuing along the Gulf coast to St. Augustine, Florida. Riding 50 to 60 miles a day through desert heat, sudden rainstorms, flat tires, and unforgiving traffic, Doug insists on being “on the ground”—feeling the wind, the heat, and the vulnerability of the road. For him, the physical toll of the ride is not incidental, but essential. Immigration, he believes, cannot be understood from a distance.
