Immersed in a world of images, we eventually find connections between some that otherwise would never have crossed paths. A cinematic masterpiece of extraordinary length, shot in black-and-white film—difficult to view due to copyright issues on one hand; ultra-short viral videos on the other. The editing cuts attempt to forge connections between opposing currents and interweave memes. The easiest way to access this legendary, monumental film, La maman et la putain, is now only through video-hosting sites and social media. Immersed in this new environment (a world apart from film archives or art-house theaters that screen it on rare occasions) and subject to its distribution characteristics, the film transforms, settles, breaks down into fragments, and ultimately intersects with meme culture.
