Bringing to Light: The Memory of the Shaved Women
0.0/10
Overview
This documentary rescues the memories of women who had their heads forcibly shaved during the Spanish Civil War and the Franco regime, a process that aims to serve as both healing and dignifying. Through the testimonies of repressed women, their children raised amidst silences and half-told stories, relatives who inherited their legacy, and researchers committed to bringing these crimes to light, it exposes a form of suffering that has marked generations. Forced haircuts—the visible part of the punishment—concealed humiliation, contempt, torture, and sexual violence. This specific violence against women was silenced for decades, dismissed as a minor punishment, and left out of official history.
