A master of masters, Francisco Javier Sáenz de Oíza left the essence of his contradictory thinking in the classrooms of Madrid’s School of Architecture. Born in Navarre and raised in Seville, he moved to Madrid to study architecture. *Don’t Die Without Going to Ronchamp* explores his life and his close friendship with sculptor and poet Jorge Oteiza, whom he met in the early 1950s. In Oíza’s final months, Oteiza urged him to visit Le Corbusier’s iconic chapel in France, inspiring the phrase that gives the film its title. A controversial architect and outspoken thinker, Oíza created works that differed widely in style and public reception. Through landmark buildings such as Torres Blancas, the Bank of Bilbao and Santander’s Festival Palace, the documentary explores the universe surrounding this remarkable architect and reveals the man beyond his work.
