Overview
In June 2009, a graphic designer in Indiana posted two altered photographs to a comedy forum and called the thing in the trees Slender Man. He admitted immediately that he invented it. Five years later, two 12-year-old girls walked their best friend into the Wisconsin woods and stabbed her nineteen times. They did it for him. This is an investigation into how the things that frighten us get made — and what happens when they don't stay where we put them. From the documented birth of Slender Man to the anonymous parking lot where the Black-Eyed Children first appeared. From the drained corporate office behind the Backrooms to the Tokyo sculpture that became Momo and terrorised children on six continents. To a quiet Toronto experiment where a fictional ghost knocked on a table in a lit room and answered questions about a life it never lived.
