"An essay film and video diary about the water, weeds, and rebels who witness and resist a Philadelphia neighborhood’s redevelopment."
Overview
NEW CONSTRUCTION spends poetic time with an industrial neighborhood of Philadelphia being rapidly redeveloped into luxury real estate. It says goodbye to DIY spaces and the artists who lived in them, old textures, and stubborn weeds, while looking ahead to the techno-dystopic landscape taking its place. Shot largely on miniDV and stitched together with experimental soundscapes, glitches, screen recordings, photographs, poems, and paranoid party stories, NEW CONSTRUCTION is part video diary, part essay film, and speaks not just to its locality, but to the broader lifecycles of cityscapes across America.
