Sixty years after Edmund Ashford saves the Sea God's life, the dying man asks the deity to protect his family for another three years. The Sea God assumes the identity of a humble fisherman named Magnus and marries Edmund's daughter, Adriana. Despite secretly protecting her family, Magnus endures years of humiliation while Adriana remains attached to her former lover, Sebastian Haverworth. When their marriage contract expires, Magnus finally walks away, leaving Adriana to confront the truth about the husband she took for granted.
