"Who are the real monsters?"
Overview
Set against a devastating storm and rising floodwaters, Aswang reimagines the classic Philippine myth not as a creature lurking in the dark, but as a metaphor for societal violence and a system that preys on the vulnerable. The film follows Aileen’s family as they are crushed one by one by poverty and neglect: a father trapped in a dangerous construction job, a mother desperately shielding her livelihood from the storm, and an older sister pushed to the brink by grueling work hours. Blending memory, poetry, and grim reality, the film crosses the line between myth and truth. Standing alone in a ruined field, Aileen leaves us with a chilling realization—and a final question: Who are the real monsters?
