Overview
Working to dispel the widely held belief that, in American Indian culture, leadership and spirituality were mostly male affairs, this film set in the Northwest tells the story of a medicine woman's fight for the religious freedom of her clan in the face of encroaching missionaries. Her position of influence in the tribe illustrates that women, too, held high places in native life, but white anthropologists have largely neglected their stories.
